Whether you’re expecting your first or a mom of 7 (God bless you), sometimes it’s hard to take time for ourselves, but it is oh so important! Check out our list below for Mother’s Day gift ideas that you might not have thought of. Or… perhaps you have but don’t know how to subtly drop the hint to your family. We’ll help you out, just send them this article. *wink wink*
1. 30 minutes of uninterrupted “mom” time
Or 60, or 90… you name it. This might appeal more to you moms of 7 than the expecting mama, but that uninterrupted “mom” time is so important to your mental health! Let Dad spend time with the kiddos and clean the house (super dad’s still exist, right?) while you binge your favorite show, take a nap, or soak in the tub (be sure to add some lavender Epsom salt for a spa-like feel).
2. Mommy & Me Photoshoot
There are so many amazing small business photographers out there who are so talented! Being a photographer myself, one of my personal favorite photoshoots to book are mommy & me photos. Hit up some local Facebook groups for recommendations and book yourself a photoshoot to preserve these memories before your little ones get too big! Find yourself some adorable matching outfits (this one is my FAVORITE) and have some fun.
3. Breast Milk Jewelry
This gift may not be for everyone, but if you hold a special place in your heart for your current or past breastfeeding jewelry, there are companies out there that will take an ounce of your breastmilk and create something beautiful for you to wear. Such a precious and special gift to remember the journey with. There are some amazing companies on Etsy that go above and beyond with their customer service and quality, but if you are more of a DIY kinda girl, you can also order kits like this one and save some money by doing it yourself at home.
4. A Clean House
If you’re reading this and you are NOT a mom (maybe this was subtly sent to you by a mom in your life), listen up. A clean house is a WONDERFUL gift. No clutter. No dirty dishes. An empty dishwasher. No rotten food in the fridge. Sparkling countertops. No tripping hazards scattered haphazardly across the floor. And a few scented candles or diffused essential oils don’t hurt. A clean house does wonders for the mind, and mama deserves it. If you don’t have the time or maybe the know-how to get it done, hit up your local Facebook page and get recommendations for a one-time cleaning crew to get the job done for you.
5. Something Handmade
The possibilities here are endless! Being a photographer, I’m always drawn towards photo crafts. With littles, I love taking one of my favorite photos of them and connecting it to something they created. An at home frame craft with your favorite photo inside could be the perfect way for you to remember these early Mother’s Days. Or you can browse your Pinterest feed for other fun craft ideas to do at home with your little ones (don’t forget to follow our Pinterest page: flawedandffearlessmama for more inspiration!).
6. A Night Away from Home
If you’re feeling touched out, anxious, overwhelmed, and as if your own needs as a woman have been pushed to the outer reaches of space, a night away from home (with or without the hubby) in a nice hotel might be the perfect Mother’s Day present for you. Depending on personalities here, this one might be tricky to ask for without offending the family, but don’t be afraid to take this one day a year to put yourself first. Your family knows how much you love them, and they love you too.
7. A Spa Day
A spa day can be as luxurious as the all-inclusive royal package at a high-end spa near you, or as simple as a few hours at home soaking in the tub with your favorite essential oils (this is mine), a moisturizing mask on your face (can’t beat this mask’s quality for the price) and your favorite show or music on repeat with NO INTERRUPTIONS. Yes, that means you lock the door and put in your headphones.
Mama, no matter what gift you ask for, or how you choose to spend your special day, don’t feel guilty for thinking of yourself. You can’t pour from an empty cup, so remember to fill yours up just a little bit with whatever rejuvenates you.
